I just made almond milk for the first time and I used the same water it was soaking in. Didn't know I wasnt supposed to. Is that wrong? Will it come out the same? Should I not drink it?

I'm breastfeeding so I want to be extra safe.

Interesting, if old thread. I have a pizza restaurant near one of the Naturopathic Medicine Universities. We have quite a few vegans who come in for pizza with veggie toppings and vegan cheese. Recently we added faux meats from Field Roast. Interestingly enough, our top seller is Apple
Sage "Sausage", although we carry Mexican Chipotle, Smoked Tomato Loaf and Wild Mushroom Loaf. I would have thought that the non meat sounding product would have gone as well as the "sausage".

My roomates and I have been eating a combination of dumpstered and bought food for over 2 years now. Last winter, the Safeway garbage compacter broke and they were just piling the waste of the day(which was emptied every night so all waste was only sitting out for that day) and we would go down there after the store closed and load up a shopping cart to take home filled with fresh fruit, veggies, cheese, meat, juice, milk, flowers, baked goods, etc. There are obvious guidelines, like, understanding the difference between "Sell by" and "Consume by". Alot of stuff is thrown out simply because it must be sold by a certain date in order to be worth the consumers money, you know? Like, you would not want to pay your own money on a product with limited shelf life when you could get the same product with a much longer shelf life. More recently our dumpster destination has been a newly opened "Choices" market, which sells both commercial and healthier options, as well as having a huge deli and bakery made with fresh, organic meat and ingredients. They sell there meat as "Fresh" and "Packed on that day" So, they cannot have it sitting in the store as long as larger supermarkets do, because people are paying a litter more for the fresher quality. So when we eat these products, they are actually sometimes FRESHER then the frozen-thawed versions at the supermarket. Some stuff is definitely sketchy, and our philosophy is always to over cook meat/dairy. And NEVER eat dumpster meat during the summer, unless you find it still frozen. Ultimately, we don't really have any sort of political reason for eating this way, its just mostly because we're all young and pretty broke, and we can eat a wide variety of healthy, fresh foods on a low budget, instead of eating what we are more economically able to, such as mcdonalds and chips.

Just wanted to confirm that at least some of the stores in the Cincinnati, OH area have BOTH the veggie patties and veggimax. I just got back from the Mason store. As always, individual stores vary because of the franchised nature of Subways.

Meat in middle east in the time of the Prophet is a necessity. Food distribution from neighboring countries is not as convenient. In the vast expand of the desert, people cannot be expected to hear what the Prophet say if their belly is empty.
However, there are a lot of cautions to be awared of by moslem before any meat can be eaten.
Money and ports in modern rich middle eastern countries are absolutely not a issue.
When all the words of Mohammed regarding animals is considered relative to the background settings, we will see Mohammed is absolutely a very considerate gentleman to animals.

All modern meat is haram to moslems.
Wool sheep from Australia is vivisected without any painkillers, leaving the sheep in agony for days afterwards.
Cows live in a condition so inhumane. Veal are kept in dark for 4 months with necks chained, milk cows are impregnated every year and render them too tired to pass more than 4 years of live, and they are transported in extreme weather to slaughterhouse. Their body parts are cut while they are still alive.
Compare the story of the chicks of a motherbird in Islam and compare it with modern fishing where even the smallest fish and cretaceans are pulled out of the sea and left off as garbage because these small animals have no economic value.
Pigs practice cannibalism in farms. Meat Bone Meal is fed back to cows.
Don't ever people say don't talk about condition in factory farm in dinner because it ruin their dinner, please open your eyes to the fact.
When moslem food authority in middle east approve the import of meat from europe and US, I think they have been pressured or corrupted by the western officials to halal the meat that is never not supposed to be halal.
There is absolutely nothing compassionate left in modern meat, and by eating them, moslems are not doing good for their religion.

To MKC: Yes, you are absolutely right, of course. That sort of behavior is very annoying. However words mean what the mean, and the word 'vegetarian' does not mean 'meat eater'. 'Meat eater' means 'meat eater'!

As said in my first post, I'm a meat eater, and even I get annoyed by meat eaters calling themselves vegetarians, it just sounds so stupid, and actually, it is just stupid. Meat, from whatever animal source, is not vegetarian food. Period.

Example: I once lived in a place with a group of people, and a cook. One day, I saw some fish, and I thought: Great, I'll have some fish for a change. When I tried to take some of the fish, the cook told me that it was for the vegetarians. Now, in this case, the cook knew better (a lot better, in fact), but there were actually people in the group, who called themselves vegetarians, who then went to eat meat! Ridiculous and very annoying, too.

People should just use words for what they mean, and not assign meanings to words that just don't make any sense.

Coincidentally I've just been recently trying Howard's soap too. I really like it! (& yeah, the exfoliating cinnamon is grand)

I also like to peruse all the listings that come up when I search for vegan soap on Etsy.

I too, am a soap nerd and have no problem putting out bigger bucks to make sure it's natural and free from animal products. My personal favorite is Sappo Hill's Oatmeal Aloe. Good for the whole body. Aubrey Organics are nice too, but a little more expensive than the $1.79 for a bar of Sappo Hill.

Howard's licorice looks like something I want to try.

My vote for most unfriendly vegan/vegetarian chain is Panda Express. On their corporate web site they proudly proclaim that none of their food is vegetarian. Even their mixed vegetables are cooked in chicken broth. How barbaric is that?

To all the judgmental vegetarians and vegans out there:
Your unabashed intolerance of anyone unlike you is causing the exact opposite of what you should want. If you want more people to stop eating meat, then stop judging people when they EAT LESS MEAT. Labels are labels - actions are more important than words. If someone calls himself a pescatarian and eats fish, get over it - the ends justify the means. Fewer animals are being slaughtered. Get off your high horses and bend toward the common good.
