So, it’s strange that the mall cop would wrestle this man to the ground. But these anti-puppy mill cheerleaders are a bit too much for me. They’re just really going to convince 95% of the population that vegans really are crazy nutsos. It always annoys me when people do things like this. I love animals, but I don’t want to be grouped with activist cheerleaders and alienate people who might otherwise be sympathetic.

I actually called the security department at this mall to express my concern and they wouldn’t even talk to me about it! The gave me the run around and quickly got me off the phone! Ridiculous!!

Ridiculous for the guy to be targeted. It was very strange for the cop to pick on him, but not the cheerleaders. I hope the cheerleaders return, in more numbers.

Public property or not, that was excessive use of force. In fact, it looked like the guy was leaving. The older security followed him and was getting in his face. I guess he didn’t feel the need to get in the cheerleaders faces since he was enjoying their show. So let’s see, those girls were being very loud for about 5 minutes and were left alone, yet one guy yells out that the store sells puppy mill puppies in a time span of less than 40 seconds and he’s tackled.

I don’t live in portland, but if I did, I’d be mounting my own protest at that mall very soon.

I 100% support what they are fighting for, BUT, the Mall is private property. It’s different than when they were protesting Schumachers, where everyone was on a public sidewalk. If they didn’t leave, security probably would have called the cops and they could have been arrested for not leaving private property when asked. It would be the same as going and sitting on someones front porch and refusing to leave, eventually you’re going to get arrested.

Unfortunately we can’t hear what is being said to the young man, but I would hope they asked them to leave before “mall-arresting” (heh) him. But I wouldn’t put it past any sort of security/police to not do the right thing before assaulting someone.

*BANG BANG* … Stop, or I’ll shoot.

OK, I just realized that the mall would be considered private property, in which case they had every right to throw them out.

I still have an issue with how it was handled. Sorry, I don’t think it’s necessary to tackle the guy to the ground and cuff him.

That is messed up.
I support what they are protesting against, as puppy mills are a horrible thing. and along with that, I am just totally shocked at what happened. That was a complete disregard of the rights that the young man has. We have a right to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. He was not getting physical, they weren’t harrassing anyone. They were just speaking their opinions. Since when is that against the law?

I hope those security guards lose their jobs for breaking his Constitutional rights.

I was watching the video, shocked. Then I scrolled down and saw it was in PORTLAND!?! Looks like I might have to go stage a demonstration of my own.

And I find it ironic that the security guards didn’t feel the need to attack the cheerleaders, but found it acceptable to detain a very peaceful man.
