Vegan Cooking in Northern Virginia

A former co-worker of mine recently started teaching a vegan cooking class in Fairfax, Virginia.  Finding vegan-only cooking classes outside of a major city can be kind of tough, so something like this is really welcome in this area.  She comes from a background of French cooking, so I’m willing to bet her classes are going to be quite good.

Here’s the info:

HI06026   Transitioning to a Vegetarian or Vegan Diet

Learn how to transition to a vegetarian diet (lacto/ovo) or an animal product free diet (vegan). Learn how to manage proper nutrition and to prepare dishes such as spinach lasagna, couscous salad, upside down apple tart, and various hot and cold soups for both types of diets. Class includes demonstration and participation. 5 sessions @ 3 hrs each.

Course #         HI06026
Fees: Tuition ($179.00) + Materials ($50.00) = Total ($229.00)

Fairfax HS, room B115, 09:00 AM, starting 05/10/08

Note that even though it says “vegetarian or vegan,” the class will focus exclusively on veganism and will not deal at all with dairy or eggs.

Kathy, I imagine this post was done long ago, but if you or anyone else want help transitioning to veganism there are a lot of people in the Northern VA area who would love to help you, myself included. I just got finished doing a month-long program sponsored by Open The Cages Alliance in Baltimore, called The Vegan Pledge Program. Mentors and Pledges met every Sunday afternoon and maintained contact on email and blog. It was great.
There was one pledge in N.VA who could not go to B’more, so I am mentoring her via email, and we have a meeting planned to go shopping at Whole Foods together.
A Northern VA group, http://www.compassion4animals.org is planning to do their own Vegan Pledge Program, but on a smaller scale. You could contact them and they would love to help you out.

I’d be interested in hearing about any vegan cooking classes as well in NoVA in 2012. Thank you

I am interested in vegetarian/vegan cooking classes. I am vegetarian but am looking to transition to a vegan lifestyle. Any suggestions on cooking classes would be great. I’ve gotten a lot of information from the PETA website already. Thanks. 2013

I’ve been teaching vegan cooking classes in VA/MD/DC for the past 22 years. It’s wonderful to be surrounded by like-minded people (and the food is great too!) I raised my daughter vegan and she is almost 24! Check out my website http://www.veggourmet.wordpress.com, and come to a class. I’m not into social media, but I have a fb fan page under Veggie Gourmet. -Mimi Clark, Veggie Gourmet, Vegan Cooking Instructor and Natural Foods Consultant.
