geez, should the next herbivore shirt have the words, "fish oil" on it? maybe nina is one of those former "vegetarians" who eat fish? and chicken, 'cause chicken is chock full of yummy cholesterol! okay, mean comments aside.
i also wrote a letter to the NYT & started an email to planck, which i thought better of and deleted. gladcow is right, grain of salt. or better yet, squirt of braggs, right? heh heh heh.

I'd buy a t-shirt that said “Babies are built from protein, calcium, cholesterol and fish oil.”

One interesting point... On her personal website, Ms. Planck provides a quote from a family practitioner she interviewed. The doctor clearly states that it's possible to raise a child vegan. The doctor's concern was that not all vegan parents are interested in planning for nutritional needs. I wouldn't dispute that, but it's no less true of omni parents.

I have to point out that she says Vitamin D is available in meat and milk. Uh, Nina, Vitamin D comes from the sun. It is added to milk.
Also, have to mention that Nina is associated with the Weston A. Price Foundation, the group who says soy makes you gay. Grain of salt, people...

Crap like this is only popular because people want to feel good about their bad choices. They want to feel that their 3-cheese, multi-meat dishes and their grease-coated fast food is somehow better for them than beans, whole grains, and fresh veggies are for those who seek them out. DENIAL is always a strong motivator towards prejudice aka "There can't be something wrong with me, so by default there must be something wrong with you". And yet, these same people don't exactly volunteer their past fad diet failures, which are inevitable with that sort of unrealistic overindulgent lifestyle.
