I also avoid the chain stores, but last week I went to Target with a family memeber. I was amazed to see Mrs. Meyers (www.mrsmeyers.com) and Seventh Generation products next to the usual harsh cleaners.

Paul, thanks for the thumbs up on the Method dish soap. I will have to try it. I've been buying Ultra Dishmate (www.ecos.com) from Whole Foods. It is made just up the street, I try to buy locally manufactured products. It works quite well and the almond smells great.

I will second the recommendation on method stuff. They seem like an altogether eco-friendly company, for sure, and when I've written them with concerns (including asking "Is this *really* all natural?") they've responded at-length and in-kind. Their dish soap is, frankly, the best I've ever used.

Hey Jen....I heard that some targets are starting to carry Seventh Generation products. If you go to the Seventh Generation website, they have a list of Target stores that are currently carrying their product.

Target also has a great natural peanut butter - both cheaper and yummier than most others I've tried.

On the other hand, they don't carry recycled-paper paper towels or toilet paper. Or at least the one by me doesn't. I wish they did.

Target also carries the Method brand of cleaning and laundry products (www.methodhome.com) -- great laundry detergent, household cleaners, dish soap, hand soap, and other stuff that is cruelty free and environmentally friendly. They don't make a toilet bowl cleaner that I've found, but otherwise I have no complaints -- pretty inexpensive, they all clean wonderfully, the packaging is recyclable, and the cleaners smell great! Hooray for Target for being more forward thinking than the rest of their kind!

I don't like Wal-Mart either, but not for the usual reasons. See, I have no magnets in my head and the way they lay their stores out guarantees I'll get lost in about a minute and a half. The last time I went there, four years ago, I had to take my then seven year old stepdaughter with me to make sure someone with a sense of direction could help me find the exit.

I'm surprised you've had trouble finding white tea. Our regular grocery has carried it for a number of years now, in the asian foods section. The one I usually have trouble finding is jasmine tea. But I will be definitely be hitting Target for that cookie dough mix! Thanks for the recce. :)
