Don’t Say Cheese: Cheese Is Number-One Source of Artery-Clogging Fat in American Diet

A slice of cheese pizza has 1/3rd of your daily saturated fat; do you ever eat just one piece? Maybe I can start convincing pizza places to offer the soy-cheese pizza I make. :)

  • Damn, I think we’re having pizza tonight.

  • I’m serving as everybody’s guilty conscience. :)

I eat large quanities of pizza whether it’s cheese or soy-cheese… especially when I go to Emilio’s. But since I make more soy pizzas now, I rarely get pizza out any more.

Maybe the next time you and Matt come by for RAW, Robert, I can make a soy pizza for everyone. :)

One suggestion they make is to order “half the cheese” rather than “extra cheese”… that helps cut back pretty significantly on the saturated fat.

  • I cut down on my junk food consumption a good amount the past two weeks, so I don’t feel all THAT bad. However, Matt and I went to Friendly’s last night so I might be back to square one.

Your half-the-cheese idea is pretty good. Not getting Canadian bacon or pepperoni is probably another good start (and appropriate for the veggie blog). I think if I do have them cut down the cheese I’d probably have to add mushrooms to fill space.

  • The half-the-cheese idea wasn’t mine — it’s funny, I never even thought about that until I read it in that article. Quite honestly, you probably wouldn’t miss it since most places slap so much cheese on there, it’s hard not to feel bloated and nasty after eating a few slices.

Of course, anything in moderation is OK, but I would think that half-the-cheese might not be a bad thing for most people to consider… especially when most people end up asking for “extra cheese.”
